Sairaanhoito-opisto is located in the Meilahti hospital area. The building has served as a wartime hospital as well as a training place for nurses, and it will now be converted for residential and office use. The design emphasizes the preservation of the building’s valuable interiors and facades. Former dormitory spaces will be transformed into a new kind of housing concept. Commercial and shared spaces will create a sense of community and a green, pleasant, and calm living environment in an otherwise busy location. The new residential building will occupy a prominent position at the corner of Paciuksenkatu and Tukholmankatu. It has been designed to complement the historic structure both visually and functionally, forming a cohesive part of the urban landscape.
