The need to develop the station area has originated from the objectives to develop the southern part of Tuusulanväylä and Käpylä station area into a more urban environment. The planning aimed to find a balance between the urban structure, the important public transport hub, the green urban space and the functionality of the busy car traffic entrance bypass.
The design work produced two main solutions, one of which directs car traffic from Tuusulanväylä mainly towards Veturitie, the other towards Mäkelänkatu boulevard. In addition, sub-options were made for both models, in which the location of a possible bus terminal in the area was investigated.
