Bunkkeri is a port warehouse built in 1970 in Helsinki's West Harbour, which is transforming from a landmark into part of the new urban structure. The building is centrally located along the main street next to the passenger terminal and the future sports park.
The plan preserves the concrete facades and massive roof of the original Bunkkeri-building but adds a glass "crown" to its top, which contrasts with the original structure and once again makes it a landmark and gateway to Helsinki. The building includes public spaces such as a swimming hall and sports arena, as well as 300 apartments, surrounded by a green courtyard and featuring special apartments on the top floors. The project was exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2016. Realisation competition, winning entry 2016.
